SUPERVISION

Presented by Dr David Powell

For timing: see programme on home page

Sponsored by Crossroads Antigua

The substance abuse and mental-health field is constantly changing. Staff needs training in an array of issues, e.g., co-occurring disorders, working in a cost-driven world, and new legal and ethical standards and requirements. Training resources are often limited. Clinical supervision is the cornerstone for staff development and quality assurance.

This session provides a foundation for supervision of personnel. Based on The Blended Model of Clinical Supervision published in Clinical Supervision in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling, by Dr Powell, it fulfills the training requirements for certification in clinical supervision of the International Certification and reciprocity Consortium.

This session is recommended for present and future supervisors. It is ideal for agencies to train their management staff.

 COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the completion of this course participants will be able to:

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Provide the Powell definition of clinical supervision

  • Differentiate between case management and clinical supervision

 Counsellor Development

  • Define the four foci of clinical supervision

  • Define isomorphism and its relationship to the clinical supervisory process

 Professional Responsibility

  • Describe two legal and ethical issues in clinical supervision

  • Define vicarious liability in supervision

Management and Administration

  • Define at least three components of the Powell Blended Model of Supervision

  • Begin to define their own model of supervision.
